Welcome to Reception!

Friday 9th July 2021

 

The children had a great day today celebrating the football! They all looked fab in their sporty, red and white outfits. We made hats, flags and played football related games. It's coming home!

Thursday 17th June 2021

 

This week the children in Reception have been learning all about Equality and Diversity. We started the week by reading the story of Elmer and we worked as a team to create an Elmer collage in each class.

 

Monday 17th May 2021

 

We are having great fun learning about people who help us. We loved dressing up and taking on the role of some of the jobs that people do. We have issued fines for speeding on our bike track, created ID badges and made warrants to make an arrest. We have also been busy building homes and putting out fires.

Friday 7th May 2021

 

The children have had a lovely day celebrating Book Day. Everybody looked fantastic in their costumes and we enjoyed sharing their character books together. In the afternoon the whole school met on the playground so that we could all see each other and wave! Thank you for all the effort put into the costumes to make this a special day. 

Wednesday 21st April 2021

 

The Reception children and staff were all SO excited to go on our first school trip to Barleylands today! We had a busy day following the trail of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, going on a tractor and trailer ride, making a rainbow salad, looking at plants growing inside a really warm polytunnel and we fed some animals! Everybody had a lovely day.

The children in Reception were very excited to come back after Easter to see how tall their beans had grown!

Friady 26th March 2021

 

This week in Reception we have been growing our very own beanstalks! We have each planted a bean in soil into a clear bag so that we can observe the changes that will happen. We talked about what will happen to our bean, made predictions and wrote instructions to tell everyone how they could plant their own bean.

Friday 19th March 2021

 

Reception have enjoyed a fun filled Red Nose Day! We started the day with an assembly talking about why we raise money on Red Nose Day and what it is used for. We then completed several themed activities such as making a carnival headdress, an outdoor scavenger hunt and telling some jokes!! The children all looked fantastic dressed in red!

The children in Reception made Worry Monsters to gobble up any worries we had about all being back together after the lockdown. Fortunately, there wasn't much to be worried about and we all had a wonderful day with our friends.

This week we have been learning about different methods of measuring. Today the children were given the opportunity to explore height, weight, length and capacity at different stations set up in the classrooms.

This week, Reception have been looking at pattern in a variety of ways. We all had fun wearing our most patterned clothing to launch our fun-filled week.

Tuesday 17th November 2020

 

The children in Reception loved wearing odd socks to mark the start of 'Anti-Bullying Week.' We learnt about the different types of bullying and what to do if the children feel they are being bullied, either in person or online. We also talked about how it is OK to be different, just like our odd socks!

The children in Reception have thoroughly enjoyed their first half term at Fairways. They have formed some good friendships and have enjoyed a variety of activities.

The children in Reception are settling in really well. We have learnt lots of new things in class but their favourite part of the last few weeks has been playing with all of their new friends!

Thursday 5th March 2020 - World Book Day

 

The children in Reception enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character on World Book Day.

The children in Reception really enjoyed their Superhero dress up day! During our themed weeks, they made an amazing metropolis by painting cardboard boxes. They loved our many role play activities, particularly freeing toy animals from blocks of ice that Mr. Freeze had created! They also wrote about their super powers and did some Superhero addition in Maths. In Computing the children made word cut outs of typical Superhero words such as “Bam!” “Bang!” and “Pow!” which demonstrated their excellent mouse control and also showed off their wonderful Phonics skills.

Tuesday 28th January 2020

 

Last week, the children in Reception were busy looking at ways to help save the planet. Every person made a pledge promising to do something that will have less of a detrimental impact on the planet. We created our Recyclable Tree of Pledges. We also thought about the animals that might be affected by our actions and made a model of each one in our teams. We also had fun making bird scarers to protect the bulbs that we planted. Finally, we made up a dance using a carrier bag. While we were dancing, we thought about how to save the planet!

As well as it being Odd Socks Day, the children in Reception were also allowed to wear patterned clothes as part of our Pattern Week. We saw a whole array of patterns including spots, stripes, stars and various animal prints.

Monday 11th November 2019

 

Class 1 and 2 visited Belfairs Wood today. We were looking for signs of Autumn and collecting the beautiful coloured leaves that had fallen to create artwork when we arrived back at school.

On Guy Fawkes Day, Classes 1 and 2 confidently performed their Firework Dance to family and friends.

Thursday 10th October 2019

 

Today, children in Reception went on an adventure of Knights, Princesses and Castles in search of Excalibur, the legendary sword of King Arthur! In our exciting drama workshop, we had to brave dragons and the person who stole the sword to save the world! By disguising ourselves as cats, we were able to succeed in our quest!

Last week, children in Reception enjoyed their first experience of Now>Press>Play. This is an immersive audio resource that engages primary school children in the curriculum. We listened and represented the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' through emotion, imagination and movement.
