Remote Education

We expect all pupils to attend school every day that the school is open, unless absence is unavoidable. Attending school in person is the best way for pupils to learn, make progress, and benefit from the wider school experience.

Remote education is not an alternative to attending school. It is only used in exceptional circumstances where pupils cannot attend in person but are well enough to continue learning. Our approach follows the Department for Education’s Providing remote education: guidance for schools (updated August 2024).

When Remote Education May Be Provided

We may provide remote education in limited situations, such as:

  • When a pupil has a confirmed infectious illness and is advised not to attend school but is well enough to learn from home.

  • When a small number of pupils cannot attend school due to a localised emergency, such as temporary building issues.

  • When a pupil is unable to attend for a short period due to circumstances agreed with the school, and remote learning is the most appropriate way to maintain continuity.

Remote education will not be provided for routine short‑term illness, holidays, or where a pupil is not well enough to learn.

What Pupils Can Expect

Where remote education is provided, pupils will receive:

  • Meaningful learning activities that align with the school curriculum.

  • Clear instructions from teachers on how to complete work.

  • Appropriate feedback, depending on the length and nature of the remote learning period.

  • Support with access, where possible, for pupils who may face barriers to learning from home.

The type and amount of remote education will depend on the pupil’s age, needs, and the circumstances requiring remote learning.

How Remote Education Will Be Delivered

We use a combination of:

  • Online learning platforms

  • Digital resources

  • Paper‑based materials where needed

  • Communication with teachers through agreed channels

We aim to ensure that learning remains accessible, manageable, and aligned with what pupils would normally be studying in school.

Support for Pupils with SEND

We are committed to ensuring that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities can access remote education. Adjustments will be made in line with individual needs, and we will work closely with families to provide appropriate support.

Expectations for Pupils and Parents

To help remote education run smoothly, we ask that:

  • Pupils engage with the work set and submit tasks as requested.

  • Parents support routines and encourage pupils to complete learning activities.

  • Families communicate with school if they need help accessing remote learning.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Safeguarding remains a priority during periods of remote education. Our safeguarding procedures continue to apply, and staff will follow the school’s safeguarding policy at all times.
