Year 1
Thursday 6th March 2025
We had a great day celebrating World Book Day. Thank you for all the effort you put into your costumes. We particularly enjoyed sharing books with the Year 5 children in the afternoon.

Year 1 had a great time on their school trip to Hyde Hall. The children explored the beautiful gardens, discovering a variety of plants and flowers. They had fun learning about how plants grow and the importance of nature in our environment. The weather was perfect for a day outside, and the children enjoyed building nests, making art with nature and using binoculars to bird watch. They even had the chance to take part in some hands-on activities, planting seeds to take back to school. The trip was both fun and educational, and the children left Hyde Hall with big smiles and lots of new knowledge about the natural world!

This week in Science, we have been learning about materials. We explored a variety of materials, like wood, metal, plastic, and fabric, and discussed their unique properties, such as being soft, hard, flexible, or waterproof. We learnt how different materials are used for different things, like why we use metal for cars or plastic for bottles.

This week Year 1 have enjoyed reading 'The Terrible Ten' by James Carter. Each day, we learnt the poem by adding gestures and expressions that brought the poem to life. On Friday, we were very excited to perform the poem to Reception.

Tuesday 24th September 2024
This week we have been reading 'Ten Little Monsters' by Mike Brownlow. The children loved listening to the story and creating their very own monster out of plasticine.

This week in Science we have been learning about our senses. We explored our sense of taste by testing different types of food and discussing which flavour categories they might fit into. We tasted sour lemon, sweet banana, salty crisps and dark chocolate (bitter). We learnt how the taste buds on our tongues help us detect which flavours food might be and how it felt to eat these different foods.
