Welcome to Reception

Friday 27th May 2022

The children had a fantastic day celebrating the Jubilee. We made bunting and had our own street party this morning, followed by a meet and greet with the Queen this afternoon! We finished the celebrations with a yummy cake on the field.

Thursday 28th April 2022

The children had a fantastic trip to Barleylands yesterday. Everyone enjoyed feeding the animals, especially the baby lambs and kids! We also learnt about eating healthily and prepared a very healthy rainbow salad! Finally they experienced a ride around the farm on a very bumpy tractor! The children were all extremely well behaved throughout and we are all very proud of them.

We had lots of fun walking to the woods today to look for signs of spring. We saw blossom, flower buds, daffodils, daisies, dandelions, bluebells and a couple of birds' nests in the trees. We also talked about the ways that we can be a safe pedestrian when crossing the road.

Wednesday 30th March 2022

The children and their grown-ups enjoyed making a variety of Easter related artwork at our Easter Craft Afternoon!

Thank you to everyone who came along. We hope you all enjoyed the event as much as we did!

Tuesday 15th March 2022

The children in Reception were very excited to test out our brand new litter pickers! They were so helpful tidying up the school grounds and doing their bit to save the planet.

Last week we learnt all about dinosaurs. The children loved joining in with the Now>Press>Play adventure and produced lots of amazing models and beautiful art work. They even made dinosaur bones out of clay and arranged them from shortest to longest.

Thursday 3rd March 2022

The children (and staff!) in Reception had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day. Everyone looked fab in their costumes, thank you for all the effort put in. Did you guess what book the Reception Team dressed up as? (What the Ladybird heard by Julia Donaldson).

We spent the day reading favourite stories, reading with our partners in Class 8 who had written special stories for us, and completing book related activities. We finished the day with a whole school parade on the playground which was loved by all!

Tuesday 22nd February 2022

The Reception classrooms were buzzing today when we met with Class 8 and Class 9 for our story sharing session. The children were all paired up and the older children asked the Reception children about their favourite texts so that they can write them their very own story for World Book Day. We will return the favour by verbally retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Wednesday 9th February 2022

The children in Reception thoroughly enjoyed their walk to the woods to look for signs of winter.

Monday 17th January 2022

We all thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as superheroes today! The children loved freeing figures from the ice, saving dolls from villains, rescuing wild animals who had been tied up with elastic bands and building their very own metropolis. They were fully immersed in the experience of being a superhero and we used this to strengthen their vocabulary and produce some high quality written work.

Tuesday 11th January 2022

Super Fruit and Super Vegetables Assemble

Inspired by the Supertato series of books, the children in Reception made their own fruit and vegetable superheroes! They thought about what their Superfood might say.

Monday 13th December 2021

The children in Reception loved wearing their pyjamas today and enjoyed watching a film with their friends.

Monday 15th November 2021

Today we wore odd socks to remind the children that it is okay to be different. This marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week for which the theme this year is 'one kind word'. We discussed how our actions can affect others and ways that we can be kind to each other.

Friday 22nd October 2021

We have conducted an experiment in school to demonstrate the importance of hand washing! We put one clean piece of bread straight into a Ziploc bag, and then passed one around the class circle. We then put this into a different Ziploc bag and sealed them. These have then hung in our classroom for the last few weeks! Today we looked at the results. The children were shocked to see how much mould had grown on the piece of bread they touched. They all agreed how important it is to wash their hands to keep those germs at bay!

Monday 18th October 2021

The children in Reception really enjoyed their walk to Belfairs Woods this morning. We spotted lots of signs that it was autumn and talked about what we could see, hear and feel.

Tuesday 28th September 2021

The children in Reception thoroughly enjoyed their first experience of Now>Press>Play. They became immersed in the story of the Gingerbread Man and loved taking on the role of the different characters.

Thursday 16th September 2021

What a fantastic start to school the children in Reception have had! We are so proud at how sensibly they have all come in, and how well behaved they have been. They have all been enjoying exploring the Reception base and making lots of new friends!

The children have had a wonderful first lunch time at school. We were very impressed at how sensibly they entered the lunch hall even though it was all new to them and a bit daunting! They then all happily tucked into their lunches whilst chatting to their friends.
